Your Chefchaouen Day, Step by Step
This is a long but rewarding day. We start early so you have the whole middle of the day in the Blue City, and your driver takes care of the road.
- 1
Departure from Fes
Around 8 am your driver picks you up at your accommodation in Fes and heads north. The early start is important, because it gives you the best hours in Chefchaouen, when the streets are quiet and the light is soft on the painted walls.
Settle into the air-conditioned vehicle, bring a snack and a light jacket, and enjoy watching the scenery change as the city falls behind.
Around 8 am
- 2
Scenic drive to the Rif mountains
Watch the landscape turn greener and greener, with lush forests, expansive and fertile river valleys, stunning gorges and the verdant mountains that surround Chefchaouen. It is one of the prettiest drives in northern Morocco, and a great contrast to the dry plains further south.
Your driver can pause for photos where the view deserves it, so the long road becomes part of the experience rather than something to endure.

The Blue City on foot
Begin your day in Chaouen with a leisurely stroll through the enchanting blue and white painted narrow streets, where every staircase and doorway seems made for a photo. Founded in 1471 as a kasbah fortress and dungeon, which can still be visited today, the town has a unique charm.
Browse the markets, which are full of genuine handicrafts, including the area’s distinctive and beautifully adorned hats crafted with different colored fabrics rarely found elsewhere in the country.
Free time to explore
- 4
Lunch and the town square
Enjoy lunch in one of the cafes or restaurants of the medina and savor the local goat’s cheese, a specialty of the region. Many places have terraces with a view over the rooftops and the mountains, a lovely spot to slow down.
Afterwards, explore the town square and the Grand Mosque of the medina, then use any remaining time for a last wander, souvenir shopping or a coffee.
Lunch at your own cost

Return to Fes
At the end of the day, your driver picks you up from the center of Chefchaouen at an agreed time and takes you back to your accommodation in Fes. The road home is a good moment to sort your photos and rest after a day on foot.

Look for wool items, handmade crafts and the local hats. Prices are negotiable in the shops, so bargain politely.

Thanks a lot.Publié sur Tripadvisor![]()

Morocco Desert Travels We had a fantastic time on our tour of Morocco from Fez to Marrakech and we have our awesome driver and guide, Mustapha, to thank for much of that (10/2019). He was happy to answer our many questions and found interesting sites and people along the way to give us a better understanding of the land and culture. When Mustapha realized how much my husband enjoyed photography he made sure we had lots of opportunities to stop and take pictures and never rushed us. He even took pictures of the two of us so now we have great photos of us together. Mustapha was an excellent driver making sure we were comfortable and safe on the road. In addition, all of the accommodations he took us to were very nice and the food was delicious. We highly recommend this experience to anyone wishing to explore Morocco.Publié sur Tripadvisor![]()
