2 Days / 1 Night Excursion to Zagora (Desert) from Marrakech

Overview

Swap the buzz of Marrakech for a night under a blanket of stars. In just two days, cross the High Atlas over the dramatic Tichka Pass, wander the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, and roll into the Draa Valley — where a camel ride at golden hour leads you to a desert bivouac deep in the sands of Zagora. Dinner around the fire, Berber rhythms in the night, and a sunrise you won’t forget.

The perfect short escape for travellers who want a real taste of the Sahara without a long journey.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 — Marrakech → Tichka → Aït Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate → Zagora

We pick you up at 08:00 from your hotel or Riad and set off across the High Atlas, climbing the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka pass with its sweeping mountain views and photo stops. We reach the legendary Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage fortified village and famous film location, where you’ll have time to explore. After a stop in Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Morocco,” we follow the palm-lined Draa Valley through Agdz toward Zagora. As the sun sets, you’ll climb onto a camel and ride into the dunes to your desert camp, where dinner, Berber music, and a night beneath the stars await.

Day 2 — Zagora → Ouarzazate → Marrakech

Wake early to catch the sunrise over the desert before breakfast at camp. We then begin the journey back to Marrakech, retracing the Draa Valley and passing again through Ouarzazate and over the Tichka Pass, with scenic stops along the way. Arrival in Marrakech around 19:00.
